WHAT IS LABIAPLASTY OF THE LABIA MINORA?
Labiaplasty of the labia minora is a plastic surgical procedure aimed at improving the aesthetic appearance of the labia minora (the skin flaps that overhang the vagina, also known as inner lips of the vagina).
Sometimes the labia minora can be hanging longer and or showing more than average. Aging, pregnancy, and weight loss can all cause stretching of the labia minora. A procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia, such as labiaplasty, can help to shorten and enhance the appearance of the genital area.
WHAT IS A LABIAPLASTY OF THE LABIA MAJORA?
Labiaplasty of the labia majora is a plastic surgical procedure aimed at improving the aesthetic appearance of the labia majora (the skin and tissue bulge found between the vagina/labia minora and the thighs of a woman, also known as the outer lips of the vagina).
The labia majora can sometimes be hanging longer and/or showing more than average. Aging, pregnancy, and weight loss can all cause stretching of the labia majora. A procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia such as labiaplasty can help shorten and enhance the appearance of the genital area by a simple tucking-in surgical procedure performed under local anesthesia.
Sometimes the labia majora can be smaller or less prominent than average. In this case, an augmentation procedure such as injection of fat (lipo-injection) can be done to enhance and sculpt the genital area.
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE AND RECOVERY FROM INTIMATE SURGERY?
These procedures can be performed under local anesthesia and generally take no more than an hour to perform. There is a minimal recovery time in most patients.
Your genital enhancement surgery results will be apparent immediately after your surgery, and will continue to improve over the next few weeks, as any remaining swelling decreases.
WHAT IS THE POST-OPERATIVE ADVICE AND CARE AFTER INTIMATE FEMININE SURGERY?
Day Surgery
Intimate feminine surgery generally takes 30-60 minutes, after which, you may be released (depending on your medical condition and health state) to a friend or family member and may return home to continue your recovery.
Bandages
Dr. Sinno and his team will apply a special dressing and initial bandages that should be kept dry and clean. These bandages are similar to hygiene pads and should be changed at least daily with the application of an antibiotic ointment on the incisions for the three weeks. These pads should also be changed after every visit to the toilet with a gentle washing of the genitals with running water to keep the area clean. Drying the area should be done with gently padding. No rubbing of the incisions should be made for at least six weeks after surgery.
Your first post-operative visit is usually a week after the procedure.
Wearing tight clothing should be avoided for six weeks after surgery or until all swelling has dissipated.
Showers and Washing
Showers should be avoided until authorized by Dr. Sinno. This is usually after the first day of your procedure. Baths and swimming should be avoided for at least three weeks or until all wounds have healed.
We recommend using white unscented shampoo and soap and running water when showering. Running water alone should be directly used on the incisions after each bandage change and every visit to the toilet for at least three weeks.
Activity and Exercise
Dr. Sinno recommends that patients refrain from all activities that may increase their heart rate or blood pressure including exercise, stressful situations, etc. for at least two weeks after surgery. Sexual activity should be avoided for at least six weeks after surgery.
However, it is recommended that patients walk and perform their usual activities within the limitations of the medical advice given and in tolerance to their comfort. No lifting more than 10 lbs. (4 kg) is recommended for at least two weeks after the surgery.
Driving
Patients are recommended not to drive when taking narcotic pain medications and when having bulky dressings that may hinder their normal reflexes and reactivity.
General Healing
You may experience some swelling and bruising that will peak one to three days after your surgery, and usually subsides within two to six weeks. Post-operative swelling, pain, bruising and duration may differ, depending on the patient and the extent of the intimate feminine surgery.
You will be expected to be able to see visible aesthetic improvements immediately following your surgery. These results should continue to progress over the following weeks, as the incision site heals and the swelling decreases. Swelling can take six weeks to subside.
Dr. Sinno advises his patients that the final results should be expected at the end of the one-year post-operative period, when all scars and incisions should be mature.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS AND POTENTIAL COMPLICATIONS OF A LABIAPLASTY?
All medical and surgical procedures have inherent risks and potential complications associated with them. It is imperative that you understand the potential risks, complications and consequences that can arise after the medical or surgical procedure you undertake. This understanding will better allow you to be able to provide informed consent based on the comparison to the potential benefit of the desired procedure.
Although the materialization of inherent risks is rare and developing complications is unlikely, these are real events that can occur. Dr. Sinno will help you understand the risk/benefit profile of your desired procedure.
HOW MUCH DOES A LABIAPLASTY SURGERY COST?
The average cost of a labiaplasty procedure range from $6,900 to $7,800 plus applicable taxes.
